Rep. Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district, has taken to social media to express his concerns regarding recent decisions by prominent figures Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Beyer, who succeeded Jim Moran in 2015, has a history of engaging with public policy issues.

On February 18, 2025, Rep. Don Beyer criticized actions taken by Trump and Musk concerning nuclear safety workers and those protecting against bird flu. He stated: "Days after 'accidentally' firing nuclear safety workers, Trump and Musk have 'accidentally' fired the people racing to protect the American people from bird flu." Beyer further commented on the need for competent leadership: "This is stupid beyond belief. A competent president would intentionally fire DOGE and everyone involved with it."

On February 19, 2025, he posted a brief message underscoring democratic principles in the United States: "We don’t have kings in the USA."

Later that day, Beyer highlighted staffing reductions at an important health program: "Musk and Trump got rid of one fifth of workers at the World Trade Center Health Program, which provides care to 9/11 first responders and survivors." He mentioned that among those affected was Anthony Gardner, whose brother died during the September 11 attacks.
