Last week, the Indiana House of Representatives voted 91-0 in support of House Bill 1433, sponsored by Rep. Hal Slager, R-Schererville. This legislation would expand Medicaid coverage to include all orthotic devices, provide coverage for a secondary orthosis or prosthesis for recreational activities for children, and increase the reimbursement rate for O&P providers to be closer to Medicare. The bill now heads to the Senate.
"Low-income families often struggle to pay for costly prosthetics and orthotics for their children, and Medicaid simply isn't meeting the need in this area," Rep. Slager said. "This legislation could really help improve the quality of life for these kids who are already facing health challenges.”
