The City of Alexandria will implement expanded enforcement of school zone speed limits for Alexandria City High Schools (ACHS) starting November 4, 2024. This applies to campuses located at King Street and Minnie Howard during the school day, as well as morning arrivals and afternoon dismissals.

Drivers are reminded that the 15 MPH school zone speed limit is in effect whenever the beacons are flashing. Compliance with these limits is required during school zone hours, as indicated by the flashing signs.

The revised schedule aims to increase awareness of ACHS students traveling between the two campuses for classes during the school day. The King Street campus is situated between Scroggins Road and Quaker Lane, while the Minnie Howard campus is between Marlee Way and Marlboro Drive.

"The City of Alexandria is committed to enhancing traffic safety for all, especially our youth," a city spokesperson stated. The city's Safe Routes to School Program supports infrastructure improvements near schools to ensure safer commutes for students. Further information can be found on the program's webpage.
