The Alexandria Health Department is conducting a community-wide survey to gather insights on health issues that are important to residents. The survey, which is anonymous and available online in multiple languages including English, Spanish, Amharic, Dari, Pashto, and Arabic, will remain open until November 1, 2024. Additionally, department staff and volunteers will be collecting responses at various locations throughout the city this fall.
This initiative is part of the Community Health Assessment (CHA), a collaborative effort by the Alexandria Health Department and local partners aimed at evaluating health concerns in Alexandria. The assessment addresses topics such as diabetes, tobacco use, dental care, and examines broader community conditions affecting health like housing, education, economic stability, structural racism, and green spaces. The findings from this assessment will help shape a five-year Community Health Improvement Plan based on the priorities identified by the community.
Residents can learn more about the survey and the overall assessment process at the CHA Kick-Off Event scheduled for Tuesday, October 1. This event will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Patrick Henry Recreation Center located at 4653 Taney Ave., Alexandria. Attendees are encouraged to register online. The event will offer a free boxed meal along with activities for children and interpretation services for Spanish, Amharic, and Dari speakers. Additional language interpretation can be arranged upon request.
The department urges residents to complete the survey and distribute it within their communities.
Further information about community health assessment activities or past assessments can be found on the Community Health Assessment website.
