The City of Alexandria's Department of Transportation and Environmental Services oversees the upkeep and repair of sidewalks, alleys, and over 561 lane miles of road. Their repaving, patching, sidewalk, and alley programs are part of an ongoing effort to maintain infrastructure for safe travel by pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and other users throughout the city.
Residents and businesses on streets scheduled for repaving receive advance notification through project signs or letters. Temporary "No Parking" signs will also be placed before work starts. Observance of these signs is necessary to avoid tickets or towing.
It is important to note that the street repaving list and schedule can change due to factors such as weather conditions, equipment availability, coordination with other city projects, or utility work. No repaving or maintenance will occur on Monday, September 2 due to a holiday.
Citywide street repaving from September 9 to September 15 includes:
- Ballenger Avenue (from Holland Lane to Courthouse Square)
- Wilkes Street (from South Patrick to end)
- Franklin Street (from South Union Street to End)
- Elizabeth Lane (from Eisenhower Avenue to Courthouse Square)
- Stovall Street (from Eisenhower Avenue to Mill Road)
Recently completed street repaving includes:
- North Paxton Street (from Duke Street to Holmes Run Parkway)
- Sharp Place (from Saint Stephens Road to end)
- Imboden Street (from North Howard Street to Raleigh Avenue)
