The City of Alexandria’s Department of Transportation and Environmental Services is tasked with maintaining and repairing sidewalks, alleys, and over 561 lane miles of road. The department's repaving, patching, sidewalk, and alley programs aim to keep infrastructure in good condition for safe travel by pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and all city users.

Residents and businesses on streets scheduled for repaving receive advance notice through project signs or letters. Temporary "No Parking" signs will also be posted before work begins. Residents are advised to observe these signs to avoid tickets or vehicle towing.

The street repaving list and schedule may change due to factors like weather conditions, equipment issues, other city projects, and utility work coordination.

Scheduled street repaving from July 22-28 includes:

- Sanford Street (from West Mount Ida Avenue to West Del Ray Avenue)

- Herbert Street (from Commonwealth Avenue to Mount Vernon Avenue)

- Milan Drive (from West Glebe Road to Four Mile Road)

Asphalt repairs are planned for the 400 block of North Jordan Street.
