The City of Alexandria is hosting a pop-up archaeology exhibit titled "Buried Ships of Robinson Landing." The exhibit, which will take place on Friday, July 26, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., offers visitors the opportunity to explore scale models of three 18th-century vessel remnants that were excavated in 2018. The event will be held at the corner of The Strand and Pioneer Mill Way near BARCA and is free to the public.
Eleanor Breen, City Archaeologist, expressed enthusiasm about the exhibit: "We are excited to present the 'Buried Ships of Robinson Landing' exhibit to the community. This collaboration with the Robinson Landing Property Owners Association allows us to bring history to life in a tangible and accessible way, fostering a deeper understanding of our shared maritime heritage."
This initiative is part of Alexandria's 275th Anniversary celebration, running from April through September. The city invites residents and visitors alike to engage with its historical narrative through this unique display.
Attendees will have the chance to interact with an archaeologist and learn how these historic ships contributed to land creation along Alexandria's waterfront.
