The Alexandria Black History Museum has opened a new exhibition titled "Moss H. Kendrix: Reframing the Black Image." The exhibit highlights Moss H. Kendrix's career, showcasing his influence on modern public relations and the portrayal of African Americans in advertising. Kendrix, known as the "Father of Black PR," worked with major clients such as Carnation Milk, The Coca-Cola Company, and Ford Motor Company during the Jim Crow era.
The exhibition was made possible through donations, an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant award, and support from his son Moss H. Kendrix Jr.
In other events, Market Square will host the Fairfax Resolves Program and Marker Dedication on July 18. This event marks 250 years since Virginia colonists wrote influential words leading to revolution. The program includes history booths, a marker dedication, a performance by the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, reenactors portraying George Washington and George Mason, and keynote remarks by Carly Fiorina.
Additional activities include an Outlandish Tour at Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum on July 21, Family Day with Young Historians at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum starting July 21 through Labor Day weekend, Yoga on the Magnolia Terrace-Happy Hour at Carlyle House Historic Park on select Fridays from July to September, and various other programs throughout Alexandria.
