Celebrate Historic Preservation Month in Alexandria with activities dedicated to the preservation of history and culture. A special event on May 4 at the Murray-Dick-Fawcett House includes a garden party, tours, refreshments, and live music. Located at 517 Prince Street, the house is one of the earliest and least altered 18th-century homes in Northern Virginia. It was acquired by the City of Alexandria in 2017.

The Office of Historic Alexandria is participating in a Social Impact Study with 40 institutions across the nation. Community members are invited to visit three museums and share their experiences by completing a survey. Participants will receive a thank you gift and an invitation to an event in November.

The Alexandria Community Remembrance Project (ACRP) honors the memory of Joseph McCoy, an Alexandria native lynched in 1897. A remembrance event will be held at Roberts Memorial United Methodist Church on April 23. Remarks will be made by Robert P. Jones, author of "The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy and the Path to a Shared American Future," and Mayor Alyia Gaskins.

Various historical and cultural events are available, including whisky tastings, tours, concerts, and other activities in different museums throughout the city. Notable among these are the Specialty Tours at Gadsby's Tavern Museum and the Preservation Tours exploring lost buildings of Alexandria.

The Robert Robinson Library, opened on April 24, 1940, is a significant historical milestone. It was established in response to a sit-in demonstration for equal access to public library facilities, organized by attorney Samuel Tucker.

For full details on events, such as the Glimpses of Historic Alexandria exhibition and the Wine & Art Night at Lee-Fendall House Museum & Garden, participants are encouraged to check the city's official website and social media channels. Participation supports Historic Alexandria's ongoing projects and initiatives.
