Rep. Don Beyer, representing Virginia's 8th District in the U.S. Congress, has shared his thoughts on current environmental policies through a series of tweets. His posts discuss the significance of Earth Day and address various contemporary political issues regarding environmental preservation.

On April 22, 2025, Beyer marked the "55th celebration of Earth Day" by emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the planet. He reflected on the origins of Earth Day as a movement born out of "bipartisan support for the planet" which endorsed "a shared vision for protecting the health and safety of our planet's future." In a subsequent tweet, posted on the same evening, Beyer expressed concern about the current presidential administration's environmental policies. He accused the President of "gutting critical environmental and public health protections" in favor of benefiting "corporate polluters." (source)

Rep. Beyer also criticized former President Trump's energy policies in another timely post. He condemned the "drill, baby, drill" strategy that "seeks to expand fossil fuel extraction on federal lands and waters," questioning the need for further resource extraction in a nation already leading in oil production. Beyer argued against "selling out our parks to polluters." (source)

Don Beyer, now 72, was born in Trieste, Free Territory of Trieste, in 1950 and resides in Alexandria. Having succeeded Jim Moran in 2015, Beyer is a Williams College graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree obtained in 1972.
