Women's Basketball Rolls Past Averett
The Bridgewater College women's basketball teamed soared past Averett 94-59 on Saturday.

How It Happened
- Bridgewater opened the game with offense right away on their first possession. Reagan Maynard knocked down a three-pointer 24 seconds in to give the Eagles the early advantage. Bridgewater was able to storm out to a 16-0 lead before the Cougars got on the board. Maynard added another three-pointer on the run and Erika Nettles went to work netting six as well during the first five minutes before Averett knocked down a long ball of their own half way through the opening frame.
- The Eagles extended their lead out to 20 points with a minute left in the opening quarter as Abby Branner made the layup and was fouled on the way up resulting in an and-one opportunity. The sophomore drained the free throw to make it 27-7. Averett answered with a four point run of their own to make it 27-11 after the first frame.
- Averett added another four point run to open the second quarter before Riley Corcoran nailed a pair of free throws for BC. The Eagles then added a 13-5 run following the free throws capped off by Dailey at the charity stripe to give BC a 44-22 lead with 3:17 to go in the first half. The Cougars responded with back-to-back buckets before Dailey and Branner combined for the next eight points for Bridgewater. Maynard knocked down a three at the buzzer to give Bridgewater a commanding 55-26 lead heading to the break.
- BC ripped off the first seven points of the third quarter as Dailey stayed hot and knocked down the opening jumper and found Jaden Alsberry on the next possession as well. Corcoran finished the run making one of two from the charity stripe to stretch the BC advantage to 62-26. The two teams traded baskets for the rest of the quarter. Averett had an answer for almost every Bridgewater score except for a quick 5-0 BC run with two minutes left in the frame to make it 73-42 with 10 minutes left to play.
- The two teams traded baskets to open the fourth quarter as Kalie Fleming hit a jumper for Averett and Nettles found Dailey who knocked one down for the Eagles. AU was able to hang with BC in the fourth quarter as Bridgewater outscored Averett 21-17 over the final ten minutes to secure the victory.
