The vice president and director of government relations for NumbersUSA said on a recent podcast that the United States has "not had an immigration system that suits the national interest in a very long time."
“Our entire immigration systems, including the border chaos, is all about special interests,” Rosemary Jenks said. “It does not serve the American people.”
Jenks’ remarks came on a recent episode of "The Jenny Beth Show" podcast. She told host Jenny Beth Martin that current immigration policies are going to be the most damaging to “poor Americans; the people who can least afford it.”
“Why would we destroy the greatest county on earth?” Jenks said. “The country that is a beacon for all these people by eliminating the rule of law; the foundation of our nation.”
NumbersUSA is an organization dedicated to the research and reform of American immigration policies. Their work shows that the high amounts of immigrants in the country decrease job availability for citizens, and push wages below the poverty line for both citizens and noncitizens employed in the affected occupations.
On June 29, NumbersUSA shared a Center for Immigration Studies analysis of the DHS’ report on fiscal year 2022. In it, they concluded the overstay rate, immigrants staying longer than their visas allowed, was 3.64% in Fiscal Year 2022, more than double the rate of recent years. The reported concluded that overstaying is one of the most significant contributors to the nation’s immigration issues. It proposed that the State Department should adjust visa issuance standards for visitors of certain countries and in certain visa categories to reflect overstay risks and that penalties for overstayers should be the same as for illegal border crossers.
