The City of Alexandria has released its schedule of services for the upcoming Christmas and New Year's holidays. Government offices will be closed on Monday, December 25, and most will also be closed on Tuesday, December 26, in observance of Christmas. Additionally, all city offices will be closed on Monday, January 1, 2024, for New Year's Day.
Alexandria City Public Schools will be closed for winter break from Monday, December 18 to Monday, January 1, 2024.
The Alexandria Transit Company (DASH) will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday, December 25 and Monday, January 1, 2024. The administrative offices of the Alexandria Transit Company will be closed on these days.
The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria will be open on Sunday, December 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Sunday, December 31, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The league will be closed on Monday, December 25, and Monday, January 1, 2024.
Various courts in Alexandria will have altered schedules during the holidays. On Friday, December 22, the Circuit Court, Clerk of Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, and Court Service Unit will close at noon. All courts will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, December 25-26, and Monday and Tuesday, January 1-2, 2004.
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will be closed on Monday, December 25, and Monday, January 1, 2024.
Health facilities, including the Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and the Teen Wellness Center, will have modified hours during the holidays. On Friday, December 22, they will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. They will be closed on Monday, December 25, and Monday, January 1, 2024.
Emergency hotlines, such as the Child Protective Services Hotline, Domestic Violence Hotline, and Emergency Mental Health Services hotline, will continue to operate 24 hours a day throughout the holidays.
Historic Alexandria museums will have adjusted schedules. On Sunday, December 24, Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site and The Alexandria History Museum at the Lyceum will be closed. All city museums will be closed on Monday, December 25, and Monday, January 1, 2024.
The City's impound lot will be closed from Saturday to Tuesday, December 23-26 and Saturday to Monday, December 30-January 1, 2024.
All libraries will be closed from Sunday to Tuesday, December 24-26, and Monday, January 1, 2024.
The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts on Monday and Tuesday, December 25-26, and Monday, January 1, 2024. However, temporary no-parking signs will still be enforced.
Recreation, nature, and art centers will have modified schedules during the holidays. All centers will be closed on Sunday and Monday, December 24-25, and Monday, January 1, 2024. On Tuesday, December 26, Charles Houston Recreation Center, Patrick Henry Recreation Center, and Chinquapin Park Recreation Center and Aquatics Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while all other facilities will be closed.
Residential refuse, recycling, yard waste, and curbside food waste collection will be delayed by one day during the weeks of December 24 and December 31. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center will be open on Saturday, December 23, and Saturday, December 30, but closed on Monday, December 25, and Monday, January 1, 2024.
The Torpedo Factory Art Center will be closed on Monday, December 25, and Monday, January 1, 2024.
