The City of Alexandria held its ninth annual Veterans Appreciation Employee Event on November 7, celebrating employees who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This event took place at City Hall and brought together city officials and staff.

The ceremony began with a presentation of colors by the Alexandria Joint Public Safety Honor Guard. Remarks were made by Mayor Justin Wilson and City Manager James Parajon, alongside keynote speakers Major General Mari K. Eder (Retired) from the U.S. Army and Terry Suehr, Senior Vice President of Operations and Engineering at Transurban.

Mayor Wilson stated, “On Veterans Day and throughout the year, we say thank you to those who have served.” He emphasized the value that veterans bring to the city workforce through their experiences gained in military service.

City Manager Parajon added, “We honor our veterans today and every day.” He highlighted how veteran employees contribute unique skills such as leadership, discipline, problem-solving, and teamwork.

Following these remarks, staff members received custom challenge coins in recognition of their service.

In addition to this annual ceremony, Alexandria offers resources throughout the year for veterans and military personnel. These include career advancement opportunities, health and wellness support, and housing programs.
