The City of Alexandria is organizing a stream cleanup event at Historic Holmes Run, located near the Charles E. Beatley Library, on Saturday, October 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This initiative is led by the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services Stormwater Management Division as part of the City's Eco-City efforts.

The event aligns with the International Coastal Cleanup, an initiative established over 35 years ago by the Ocean Conservancy. Its purpose is to unite communities in cleaning and protecting coastlines and waterways. The City has been involved in this global effort for more than 15 years.

Participants will gather at the Charles Beatley Library parking lot for registration and a briefing before proceeding to Holmes Run for the cleanup activity. The City will supply gloves, bags, and first-aid kits. Participants are advised to wear long pants and covered footwear and bring their own water.

To register or obtain further details about the event, individuals can contact gavin.pellitteri@alexandriava.gov.

Apart from joining local cleanup activities, residents are encouraged to contribute to water resource protection by picking up after pets, minimizing fertilizer use, and using the Alex311 reporting system for any suspicious findings in local waterways. More information can be found on the City's website at alexandriava.gov/go/3120.

For reasonable disability accommodations, contact gavin.pellitteri@alexandriava.gov or call 703.746.4071 Virginia Relay 711.
