The National Weather Service has issued a warning for severe winter weather conditions expected on Friday, January 3, during the early evening hours. Snowfall is anticipated to reduce visibility and cover roadways between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The Washington Metropolitan area is forecasted to experience snow and rain showers, with the possibility of localized heavier snow showers. Additionally, an Enhanced Winter Storm Threat has been announced for Sunday, January 5 through Monday, January 6. This could result in accumulating snow mixed with sleet and freezing rain, potentially affecting Monday's commutes.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about current weather conditions by following local media updates. Driving in severe winter conditions should be avoided if possible. Those who must drive are advised to ensure their vehicles are adequately fueled and carry a charged cell phone. Emergency supplies such as a shovel, extra gloves and hat, a blanket, a flashlight with extra batteries, food, a towrope or chain, and extra money should also be kept in the car.
