George Washington's birthday will be celebrated in Old Town Alexandria on February 15, 2025, with two significant events honoring his legacy.
The George Washington Birthday Parade is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. in Old Town Alexandria. It is recognized as the nation's oldest and largest parade of its kind. This year's theme, "George Washington: America’s Commander-in-Chief," marks the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War and the founding of the United States Army. Lieutenant General Heidi J. Hoyle, Deputy Chief of Staff of the United States Army, will be featured as the Grand Marshal for this patriotic event. Those interested can register for participation until January 31 at www.washingtonbirthday.com.
Later that evening, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Gadsby’s Tavern Museum will host a George Washington Birthnight Dinner at 134 N. Royal Street. Tickets are priced at $150 per person and can be purchased at Alexandriava.gov/Shop. The dinner will include a four-course meal inspired by historical recipes, with wine accompaniment. Brian Hilton will portray General Washington as host, while Dr. Peter Henriques, Professor Emeritus of History at George Mason University, provides insights into Washington's military career and lasting impact.
