Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia's 8th district, has voiced concerns over recent trade policies and immigration enforcement activities through a series of tweets. Beyer replaced Jim Moran in 2015 and has since been an active political figure.
In a tweet posted on March 6, 2025, Beyer criticized former President Trump's trade actions, stating, "Everything Trump does on trade maximizes chaos and uncertainty. Keeping his tariffs in place will cost families up to $2,000, but imposing and lifting them over and over again also has a cost."
Continuing his critique on the same day, Beyer noted the economic impact of these policies. He tweeted, "All of this hurts our economy, which is being reflected in worsening outlooks for growth, job creation, inflation and the stock market." He further commented on the political dynamics surrounding these issues: "Trump keeps touching the hot stove and unfortunately Republicans are refusing to do the smart thing which is to turn off the damn stove."
Later that day, Beyer addressed immigration enforcement activities in Northern Virginia. He expressed concern about their purpose and impact: "We have to be able to enforce the law and protect the public without creating a climate of fear. This week’s ICE enforcement activities in Northern Virginia were designed to instill fear and generate photo ops for Kristi Noem, not to make us safer."
