Construction on the sanitary sewer improvement project in Alexandria is set to commence in March 2025. The work will be carried out on the 300 and 400 blocks of North Alfred Street in Old Town, focusing on replacing sewer pipes and installing new manholes along the west side between Queen Street and Oronoco Street.
The project is scheduled to start on Monday, March 10, and is expected to continue through Tuesday, July 8, weather permitting. Construction hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Efforts will be made to minimize disruptions by conducting the work in segmented zones. Sidewalks will remain open during construction hours; however, lane or intersection closures may occur. The east lane of North Alfred Street will stay open for vehicles, with flaggers present to manage traffic flow and ensure safe access to homes and driveways.
Parking restrictions will be enforced on the western side of North Alfred Street within the work zones during construction hours. Temporary No Parking signs will be displayed before construction begins. Excavated areas will be covered with heavy metal plates secured outside working hours.
