The Alexandria Commission on Aging is currently accepting nominations for its annual Excellence in Aging Awards. The deadline for submissions is set for Wednesday, April 2, at 5 p.m. The awards ceremony will take place at City Hall in the Vola Lawson Lobby on Tuesday, May 13, at 5:30 p.m.

The commission, which focuses on advocating for older residents' needs in Alexandria, established these awards to recognize individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to supporting older Alexandrians or have made noteworthy advances in projects affecting this demographic positively.

Awards will be given in four categories:

- Annie B. Rose Lifetime Award: This award honors an individual who has dedicated at least a decade of service to seniors.

- Lois Van Valkenburgh Excellence in Aging Award: This recognizes a citizen with a minimum of one year of service to seniors.

- Excellence in Aging Award for an Organization: This is awarded to an organization that has significantly contributed to Alexandria's senior community.

- Public Service Award: This acknowledges a city employee who has enhanced Alexandria's livability for all ages through their work.

Nominations can be submitted online along with viewing past recipients at www.alexandriava.gov/aging.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, accommodations are available upon request by contacting the Division of Aging and Adult Services or using Virginia Relay.
