The Alexandria Health Department (AHD) is urging residents to participate in National Public Health Week, being observed from April 7 to 13. This week acknowledges the influence of community, systems, and policies on health while celebrating progress in enhancing health and welfare.
Amid recent federal changes, AHD reassures locals of its dedication to the city's public health initiatives. The department encourages community involvement in health enhancement and recognition efforts.
"It's often said that when public health efforts are working, they are invisible," noted AHD Director Dr. David Rose. He emphasized the daily presence of public health, as seen in various facets of city life, from educational practices to community services.
To engage residents, AHD has launched a Community Health Photo Album, inviting submissions of photos or videos that capture the city's health influences. The submission period extends until May 4, with potential inclusion in Alexandria’s 2024-25 Community Health Assessment.
Residents are encouraged to reflect on public health by contributing to the Community Health Photo Album, engaging in the 2025 Community Health Assessment, nominating candidates for the Flora K. Casey Award, or volunteering with the Medical Reserve Corps.
Throughout Public Health Week, AHD will share information and engagement opportunities via social media. Additional public health resources and translation services can be accessed through the department’s website.
