The City of Alexandria is inviting the community to participate in Building Safety Month this May. To mark the occasion, a public event is scheduled on May 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Market Square, located at 301 King Street.

Building Safety Month highlights the commitment of building safety professionals. Alexandria participates in the nationwide campaign to underscore the contributions of Code Administrations Professionals. The event offers complimentary lunch, a raffle, and various exhibits by City departments and local building partners.

The day begins with a chance for early registrants to join free continuing education sessions. HILTI will lead a session on "Fire Stopping Techniques Utilized in Construction" at 10 a.m. Later, at 1 p.m., Simpson Strong-Tie will conduct "Deck Safety at Home." Together, these sessions provide two hours of Continuing Education Units. Course attendees can enjoy complimentary coffee and snacks starting at 9:30 a.m. in the Chet and Sabra Avery conference room at City Hall.

To attend these sessions, interested individuals should contact penny.gausman@alexandriava.gov to register. The seating is limited to 50 participants and open to the public. Additional details about Building Safety Month and Code Administration can be found at alexandriava.gov/Code.
