Historic Alexandria is set to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary with a national initiative called "Two Lights for Tomorrow". The event, planned for April 18 and 19, 2025, invites citizens nationwide to display two lights as a gesture of unity and shared purpose. This symbolic act is in honor of the historic ride of Paul Revere, which took place from April 18 to 19, 1775.

To participate, individuals, businesses, and organizations across the country are encouraged to place two lights—lanterns, candles, or electric displays—in homes and public spaces. In Historic Alexandria, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum will participate by illuminating the Public Dining Room, where foundational conversations of the new Republic once occurred.

Participation is open to all. More details can be found at the provided website link. The event is intended to reflect on the nation's ongoing pursuit of unity and improved governance.

The Office of Historic Alexandria, which organizes this event, is dedicated to preserving the city's history through its museums, sites, and public programs. They aim to enrich the present and inspire future generations while supporting equity and inclusion in the city.
