The Jerome "Buddie" Ford Nature Center in Alexandria is organizing a free Zoom talk on mosquito and tick management titled “Mosquito & Tick Management: Pesticide Reduction for Pollinator Protection.” The event, scheduled for May 6 from 7-8:30 p.m., is in collaboration with Virginia Cooperative Extension, Arlington Regional Master Naturalists, and Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia.

Participants will learn about eliminating mosquito breeding spots, using safe repellents, and understanding why common yard sprays and foggers may not be beneficial. Additionally, the talk will cover which plants may attract ticks, provide tips on safeguarding oneself and pets, and discuss preventing tick-borne diseases. A live Q&A session is planned to address any questions.

Registration is free through alexandriava.gov/rpca/mosquito-tick. A Zoom link will be sent a week before the event. The organizers encourage spreading the word to friends and neighbors in the Mid-Atlantic region.
