The City of Alexandria has announced an open invitation for community feedback on proposed improvements to John Ewald Park, located at 4452 Duke Street. Residents are encouraged to provide their input during the public comment period from April 21 to May 21, through an online survey. Written feedback can be directed to Judy Lo via email at judy.lo@alexandriava.gov or mailed to the City's Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities.
The collected feedback will aid in shaping the final Park Improvement Plan recommendations, which are set to be presented at a public hearing during the June 26 Park and Recreation Commission meeting.
John Ewald Park spans 3.88 acres in the West End and features amenities such as a lighted basketball court, playground, parking lot, and open grass area. The initial improvement recommendations date back to 2015, following a planning process for the city's 19 neighborhood parks.
Community involvement opportunities are forthcoming, beginning with an Ewald Park Community Meeting/Open House scheduled for April 24 at the Patrick Henry Recreation Center. A virtual meeting will follow on May 1. RecFest 2025 on May 3 at the Patrick Henry Recreation Center will offer another chance for community engagement. Additionally, the Alexandria Police Department will host a community cookout on May 7 at Ewald Park.
The Park and Recreation Commission Presentation is slated for May 15 at the Charles Houston Recreation Center, with a public hearing to follow on June 26 at a location to be announced.
To learn more or contribute feedback online, residents can visit the project website. Accommodations for disabilities and interpretation services are available by contacting Judy Lo or through the city's language access services.
