The City of Alexandria's Sister Cities Committee has announced the annual Whisky Tasting event scheduled for April 26 at the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum. The evening will offer a guided tour of Scotland's five whisky regions, allowing attendees to sample five types of Scotch and engage with whisky experts. VIP ticket holders will receive two additional samples. The event supports educational and cultural exchanges between Alexandria, VA, and its sister cities, Dundee, Scotland, and Helsingborg, Sweden. Hors d'oeuvres, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided, and a minimum age of 21 is required for attendance.
On May 3, the Lee-Fendall House Museum & Garden will host its Wine & Art Night. The fundraising event combines wine tastings, art displays, and live music to support the museum's mission of preserving local history. Ticket packages include wine glasses and tasting passports, with VIP admission offering early access to the event's special reception and silent auction.
Moreover, Historic Alexandria is inviting public participation in a Social Impact Study aimed to assess the local museums' societal value. Participants will visit multiple museums and complete surveys about their experiences. Incentives for participants include gifts and free society admission.
Several themed events are planned, ranging from walking tours, such as the Civil War Hospitals Walking Tour, to learning activities including the "Magical Apothecary" tour inspired by Harry Potter. On May 17, the Fort Ward Museum will offer a guided tour as part of its commitment to preserving Washington's defenses.
An exhibition, "Glimpses of Historic Alexandria," featuring photographs by Carol Jean Stalun, is open until April 27 at the Lee-Fendall House Museum & Garden. The attraction exhibits visual renderings of historically significant sites.
For further engagement, Alexandria's museums operate on varied hours, and complimentary admission is extended to city residents. The community is encouraged to support the preservation activities and educational programs through contributions.
