Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Town of Bridgewater issued the following announcement on Oct. 5

On Saturday, October 9, the Rockingham County Landfill (813 Greendale Road, Harrisonburg), will host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day from 8:00 a.m. to noon.  The landfill will be accepting the following items (Limit of 5 units per vehicle/per household):

  • Solvents (mineral or petroleum spirits, paint thinner, turpentine, acetone, naphtha, methyl alcohol)
  • Automotive fluids
  • Paints (but not latex)
  • Fuels (Gasoline, diesel fuel, chainsaw or motorboat fuel, #2 fuel oil, kerosene, and heating oil)
  • Other items (transmission oil, syringes & needles, herbicides & pesticides, commercial grade fertilizer, rechargeable batteries, fluorescent lights, and antifreeze)
Business and farm wastes will not be accepted.  Any waste brought to the site other than that listed above will not be accepted.  Waste must be in original container and, due to EPA and Virginia regulations, waste can only be accepted from households only.  No containers over 5 gallons in size will be accepted.
