Rep. Don Beyer criticizes employment practices affecting veterans and federal workers

U.S. Representative Don Beyer, who has served Virginia's 8th district since 2015, recently expressed his concerns over employment practices affecting federal workers through a series of tweets. His remarks focused on the impact of these practices on veterans and other federal employees.

On February 21, 2025, Rep. Beyer criticized what he referred to as the "Musk-Trump Veteran Firing Program." He highlighted that nearly a third of federal workers are veterans, with an even higher percentage at the Department of Defense (DoD). In a subsequent tweet dated February 22, 2025, Rep. Beyer condemned efforts to demoralize the workforce. He stated that "thinking up new ways to demoralize the workforce every day isn't smart or 'efficient,' it's destructive and harmful," further labeling it as "just another illegal pretext to fire workers."

On February 23, 2025, Rep. Beyer addressed issues related to employee reclassification at the National Science Foundation (NSF). He cited concerns that "the reclassification exposes these employees to termination without due process," pointing out that NSF had "unilaterally stripped permanent status from both union and non-union workers, including executives, without notification."
