Augusta County recently issued the following announcement.

Managing Theileria in Beef Cattle

Program of the Virginia Extension Office

Date: 03/10/2022 

Time: 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM 

Introduction: The discovery of the Asian Longhorn Tick and Theileria in Virginia has been a source of concern for Virginia cattle producers. At this program for cattle producers, we will discuss ways to minimize negative impacts from the disease in your herd.

The discovery of the Asian Longhorn Tick and Theileria in Virginia has been a source of concern for Virginia Cattle Producers.  At this meeting, we will discuss ways to minimize negative impacts from the disease in your herd.

Speakers:

Kevin Lahmers, DVM, PhD, Virginia Tech

Dr. Lahmers has been a leading researcher in Theileria Orientalis Ikeda since its discovery in Virginia.

Program will include veterinary panel featuring:

Dr. Ashley Nelson – Westwood Animal Hospital

Dr. Brad Birak – Ashby Herd Health Services

Dr. Todd Wiseman – Dayton Vet Services

Dr. Brendan Martin – Valley Herd Health
