The Alexandria Police Department has released a Critical Incident Community Briefing (CICB) concerning an officer-involved shooting that took place on Maris Avenue. The department emphasizes its commitment to transparency and modern policing practices, which include the use of technology and adherence to best practices.

In line with its policy on body-worn camera footage, the APD is offering this briefing to provide the community with insights into law enforcement responses during critical incidents. These briefings may feature various materials such as maps, 9-1-1 call excerpts, body-worn camera videos, and evidence photos. This initiative aims to clarify the investigative process and outcomes for the public. Such briefings are released under Department Directive 2.8 at the discretion of the Chief of Police.

The video related to this particular incident involves an officer-involved shooting that occurred on August 12, 2024. The department advises viewer discretion when watching this content.

Following a detailed review by the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, it was determined that "the officer's actions were justified and the officer's use of force was objectively reasonable under the circumstances." However, an internal investigation continues and will be handled by both the Office of Professional Responsibility and the Office of the Alexandria Independent Policing Auditor.
