Upcoming cultural events in historic Alexandria feature lectures, music, tours

Patrick Mullins, an Associate Professor of History and Public History at Marquette University, will be presenting a lecture titled "The Great Commoner Dethroned: William Pitt's Rise and Fall (and Rise) in British and American Art" as part of the Alexandria Association Lecture Series. The event will take place at the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum on November 18, with free entry for members and a $10 fee for guests.

The Alexandria-Caen Sister City Committee is organizing a food and wine-tasting event called "Bienvenue Beaujolais" on November 21 at Lloyd House. Tickets are priced at $70. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore French wines, including the 2024 Beaujolais Nouveau, accompanied by traditional French cuisine.

In celebration of Virginia Cider Week, the Alexandria Cider Festival will be held on November 23 at Lloyd House. Pre-sale tickets are available until November 22 for $55, while designated drivers can purchase tickets for $25. Tickets purchased at the door will cost $65.

Dr. Jimmie McClellan from Northern Virginia Community College will deliver a lecture titled “Scots in Servitude” on November 14 as part of the ALX275 campaign commemorating Alexandria’s 275th anniversary. The lecture focuses on Scottish emigrants who arrived in North America before the American Revolution.

The Ken & Brad Kolodner Quartet will perform American Roots Music at The Lyceum on November 15. Tickets are priced at $30 for adults and $12 for ages 12-17.

A walking tour exploring Alexandria's architecture is scheduled for November 16 at Carlyle House Historic Park, with reservations required due to limited space.

The Lee-Fendall House Museum & Garden offers a Civil War Hospital Tour on November 16 to educate visitors about its history during the Civil War when it served as a Union Army hospital.

"Tables of Conscience Dinner," aimed at raising funds for scholarships, is set for November 16. Reservations require a donation of $125 per person, with proceeds supporting scholarships named after Joseph McCoy and Benjamin Thomas.

On November 24, there will be a musical celebration commemorating Marquis de Lafayette’s visit to America in 1824, featuring period-instrument wind band performances by Music of the Regiment.

These events highlight various aspects of history and culture through lectures, tours, music performances, and themed dinners throughout historic Alexandria.
