Alexandria presents waterfront flood mitigation plans at public events

The City of Alexandria is set to present updates on the Waterfront Flood Mitigation Project's pump station design through a series of public events in November. These updates will be shared at three separate gatherings, with two taking place during regular commission meetings and one as a standalone public open house.

On Tuesday, November 19, the Waterfront Commission will host its monthly meeting at Alexandria City Hall, where attendees will receive an overview of potential pump station locations within Waterfront Park. This session begins at 7:30 a.m. Interested parties can find more information on the Waterfront Commission webpage.

Following this, the Park and Recreation Commission will hold its meeting on Thursday, November 21, at 7 p.m., located at Patrick Henry Recreation Center. Similar to the earlier meeting, this event will also cover possible locations for the pump stations in Waterfront Park. Details are available on the Park and Recreation Commission webpage.

The final event is scheduled for Monday, November 25, from 7 to 9 p.m., and will take place both in-person at Alexandria City Hall and online via Zoom. This hybrid community meeting aims to provide an in-depth explanation of pump station location options and refined landscape concepts for both Waterfront Park and Point Lumley Park. Participants can engage in a question-and-answer session and view display boards presented by project team members. Public feedback on these designs is encouraged during this session. More information can be found on the Waterfront Flood Mitigation Community Engagement webpage.

Additional details about the project are accessible at alexandriava.gov/Waterfront.
