The Alexandria Cider Festival is set to take place on Saturday, November 23, at the historic Lloyd House in Old Town Alexandria. Attendees can enjoy cider tastings, live music, tavern games, and food trucks. Tickets are available online until November 22 for $55 or $25 for designated drivers. After that, tickets can be purchased at the door for $65. The festival aims to support Historic Alexandria Museums.
In commemoration of the Marquis de Lafayette's visit to the United States in 1824, a concert will be held on Sunday, November 24, at the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum. "Music of the Regiment" will perform using period instruments to recreate sounds from Lafayette’s Grand Tour. Tickets are priced at $20.
On Thursday, November 21, the Alexandria Black History Museum will host "Meaningful Conversations: African-American History," focusing on local non-profits advocating racial and social justice. Ronald L. Chase and Dr. Darnella McGuire-Nelson will speak about their work with Gum Springs Museum and Douglass Memorial Cemetery.
Lloyd House will also host "Bienvenue Beaujolais" on Thursday evening for a French wine-tasting event organized by the Alexandria-Caen Sister City Committee.
Several events are scheduled for December as well. A free holiday magic show is planned for December 4 at The Lyceum featuring magicians from Ring 50 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. On December 7, visitors can create ship biscuit ornaments at the Alexandria Archaeology Museum.
Gadsby’s Tavern Museum offers gingerbread decorating sessions on December 8 while Becky Tracy and Keith Murphy perform traditional music from various regions on December 12 at The Lyceum.
Further events include storytime followed by a Kwanzaa workshop at the Alexandria Black History Museum on December 14 and "Christmas in Camp" activities at Fort Ward Museum & Historic Site also on December 14.
The city encourages donations to support Historic Alexandria's educational programs beyond what operational funding covers.
