The Alexandria Health Department (AHD) is urging residents to take preventive measures against respiratory viruses this fall by getting vaccinated and adopting healthy habits. To support this initiative, AHD will host a free flu vaccination clinic.
The clinic is scheduled for October 26 at Alexandria City High School - Minnie Howard Campus, located at 3801 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The flu shots are available to everyone aged six months and older without the need for ID, insurance, or appointments. However, COVID-19 and high-dose flu shots will not be offered during this event. Attendees can expedite their visit by pre-entering their information online.
Parking is available on-site at the Minnie Howard Parking lot, with public transit options also accessible. Concurrently, early voting will occur at the same location from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“We can’t wait to help Alexandrians protect themselves this season,” stated AHD Director Dr. David Rose. “We’re especially hopeful that people without insurance will come by for a free shot.”
This season's health recommendations include new COVID-19 and flu vaccinations for individuals six months and older. An RSV vaccine is advised for certain young children, pregnant women, and eligible older adults who have not previously received it.
Those with insurance may obtain vaccines through primary care providers or pharmacies listed on vaccines.gov. Uninsured individuals can arrange COVID-19 and flu vaccinations at AHD using a sliding fee scale by calling 703-746-4888.
In addition to vaccines, AHD advises maintaining safe practices daily:
- Stay home if you feel unwell.
- Obtain free COVID-19 tests from local libraries or order them online.
- Wash hands frequently with antibacterial soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Use your arm to cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing.
- Consider wearing masks as an extra precaution.
