The deadline to register or update voter registration for the upcoming November 5, 2024 General Election is set for Tuesday, October 15. Following this date, the same day registration period will commence, requiring individuals opting for this process to cast a provisional ballot.

The ballot in Alexandria for the November election will include positions such as US President and Vice President, US Senate, US House of Representatives, Mayor, City Council, School Board, and a proposed Constitutional Amendment.

Voters who have moved since their last voting experience are urged to verify their registration at their current address. This can be done online at vote.elections.virginia.gov, via email at voters@alexandriava.gov, or by phone at 703.746.4050. Failure to update registration records before the deadline may result in casting provisional ballots through the Same Day Registration process.

U.S. citizens residing in Virginia who will be 18 or older by November 5 can register using several methods:

- Submit an application online at vote.elections.virginia.gov before midnight on October 15.

- Register in person at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections (132 N. Royal St., Suite 100) by 5 p.m. on October 15.

- Download an application from alexandriava.gov/Elections and mail it postmarked on or before October 15.

New registrants or those transferring registrations will receive voter information letters within one week of registering.

For those utilizing same day registration starting October 16, they must register in person either during early voting locations or on Election Day at their designated polling place based on their current residential address.

Early voting is available to all registered voters in Virginia until Saturday, November 2 at 5 p.m., with sample ballots accessible via alexandriava.gov/Elections.

Ballot drop boxes will be operational at all polling places from November 5 between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., with an outdoor drop box under video surveillance available around-the-clock until November 5 at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections.

Applications for mail-in ballots need to reach the Voter Registration Office by Friday, October 25 at 5 p.m., with completed ballots required back by Tuesday, November 5 by mail or drop box; mailed ballots must be postmarked by that date and received by noon Friday, November 8.
