The City of Alexandria is set to resume its spring mulch program and street sweeping services. Starting March 4, residents can place orders for a limited supply of leaf mulch. Deliveries will be available from April 1 through June 28 on a first-come, first-served basis. The delivery fee is $65 for a half-load and $130 for a full load.
Residents also have the option to pick up free mulch at 4215 Eisenhower Ave., Monday through Saturday, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Commercial vehicles and machinery are not allowed at the site, which is monitored. Violations can be reported via Alex311, while emergencies should be directed to 911.
Street sweeping across the city will commence on March 11 and is expected to take about ten weeks to complete one pass of cleaning all streets. This initiative aims to maintain clean neighborhoods and commercial areas while protecting waterways from debris runoff by sweeping approximately 560 lane miles.
The street sweeping program categorizes areas into three groups: commercial, no parking, and residential zones. Residents are advised to adhere to "No Parking" restrictions in designated areas and any temporary signs posted for debris removal purposes. In case of bad weather, street sweeping will be postponed; however, parking restrictions remain enforced according to city ordinances.
