Raise a glass to history at the Vive Lafayette Wine Challenge on Friday, February 21, from 7-9:30 p.m. at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, located at 134 N. Royal Street. This special evening commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette’s February 21, 1825 visit to Alexandria with an unforgettable France vs. Virginia wine challenge.
Guests will savor six wine varieties, paired with heavy hors d’oeuvres and charcuterie, while deciding the ultimate victor—France or Virginia—in a friendly competition of grape varietals. The evening will be filled with lively tavern games, 19th-century music, and a chance to meet the Marquis de Lafayette himself.
Tickets are $100 and can be purchased online at alexandriava.gov/Shop. Please note that the event will be held on the second floor of the tavern, which is not equipped with an elevator due to the historic nature of the building.

Gadsby’s Tavern was a center of social and political life in Alexandria as well as Washington during America's early years as a nation. Tavern keepers John Wise and John Gadsby hosted balls, performances, and meetings in what were considered premier accommodations for travelers. The museum is located in Old Town Alexandria and operated by the City of Alexandria.
The Office of Historic Alexandria manages eight museums and historic sites within the city and aims to enrich present-day life through storytelling and engagement with Alexandria's past.
