Beyer, who was born in Trieste and graduated from Williams College, has been vocal about several issues affecting federal employees, medical research funding, and economic policies.

On February 10, 2025, Rep. Don Beyer highlighted a judicial decision by Judge O'Toole regarding the Musk-Trump Administration's policy on "deferred resignation" offers to federal employees. He stated that "Judge O'Toole has extended his freeze on the Musk-Trump Administration's 'deferred resignation' offers to federal employees 'until further order of the Court'".

Later that day, Beyer addressed an issue concerning medical research funding in Virginia. He criticized Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares for prioritizing party loyalty over the wellbeing of Virginians. According to Beyer's tweet from February 10, "Because Virginia AG Jason Miyares chose party loyalty over Virginians' wellbeing, this order unfreezing medical research funding does not apply to Virginia." He explained that Miyares did not join a suit intended to protect medical research, resulting in an order that only benefits "Plaintiff States."

In another tweet posted on February 10 at 23:48 UTC, Rep. Don Beyer criticized new tariffs introduced by Trump’s administration. He argued that these tariffs would have negative repercussions for Americans by increasing housing costs and impacting domestic manufacturing negatively: "Trump's latest tariffs will raise housing costs and hurt American manufacturing."
