Rep. Don Beyer, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia's 8th district since 2015, expressed concerns over actions taken by former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk regarding federal employees and their roles within the government. The congressman, known for his advocacy on behalf of federal workers, made a series of statements on social media highlighting these issues.

On March 4, 2025, Rep. Beyer posted about his stance with the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), criticizing both Donald Trump and Elon Musk for what he described as "serious abuses" of federal authority. He emphasized the importance of federal employees by stating: "Federal employees make our country great. They research cures for diseases, provide care for our veterans, deliver our mail..."

Later that day, at 20:48 UTC, Beyer referenced an internal email from the Trump Administration suggesting plans to outsource certain governmental functions to private industry. He raised alarms about mass firings occurring at the Social Security Administration under Trump's directive in collaboration with Musk, claiming it could jeopardize senior citizens' benefits. He tweeted: "Internal Trump Administration email says Trump and Musk intend to 'outsource non-essential functions to industry.'"

The following day on March 5, Beyer succinctly conveyed his steadfastness regarding his prior statements with a simple tweet saying: "No regrets."
