Early voting for the January 9, 2024, Special Election in School Board, District A, in the city of Alexandria, begins on Monday, December 11, 2023. The deadline to vote early is Saturday, January 6, at 5 p.m.
All registered voters in School Board, District A, are eligible to vote by mail or in person. Voters can check which school board district they reside in here and review a sample ballot here.

- Closed Monday, December 25, 2023.
- Closed Tuesday, December 26, 2023.
- Closed Monday, January 1, 2024.
- Open Saturday, December 30, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Open Tuesday, January 2, 8 a.m.–7 p.m.
- Open Saturday, January 6, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
Applications to request a mail-in ballot must be received at the Office of Voter Registration & Elections by 5 p.m., Friday, December 29. Access an application in one of the following ways:
- Visit vote.elections.virginia.gov to apply online.
- Download the application from the City’s Elections webpage.
- Call the Office of Voter Registration & Elections at 703.746.4050 to request that an application be mailed to you.
Ballots for voters who have requested to be on the permanent absentee ballot list will be mailed on Monday, December 11.
Ballot Drop Boxes
Ballot drop boxes will be available at all polling places in School Board, District A, on Tuesday, January 9, from 6 a.m.-7 p.m. A secure outdoor drop box under video surveillance is available in front of the Office of Voter Registration & Elections, 24 hours a day until Tuesday, January 9, at 7 p.m.
Registering to Vote
The deadline for the normal registration period for the Special Election on Tuesday, January 9, is Wednesday, December 27. The same-day registration period begins Thursday, December 28, and runs through Election Day on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Visit vote.elections.virginia.gov to register, check registration status, or update an existing registration.
