Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia's 8th district since 2015, has recently shared several tweets addressing social justice and community support issues.
On November 18, 2024, Beyer reflected on the tragic death of Bijan Ghaisar, who was fatally shot by U.S. Park Police seven years ago. He expressed solidarity with Ghaisar's family in their ongoing quest for justice and accountability. "Seven years ago, Bijan Ghaisar was fatally shot by U.S. Park Police. He was 25, and unarmed. His family - Kelly, James, Negeen, and Kouros - continue to fight for justice and accountability, and I stand with them. We won't forget Bijan."
Later that day, Beyer highlighted the ongoing struggles faced by communities affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. He urged Congress to provide comprehensive disaster relief to aid in rebuilding efforts. "Communities hit by Hurricanes Helene and Milton are still picking up the pieces and they need our help. Congress must step up and deliver comprehensive disaster relief to help these communities rebuild. It's the right thing to do."
On November 19, 2024, Beyer extended a welcoming message to Delaware residents through his tweet supporting Sarah McBride’s leadership role in Delaware politics. "The people of Delaware elected you, and you are just as welcome here as anyone else. We are with you @SarahEMcBride."
