The City of Alexandria has commenced its annual leaf collection program as of October 28, 2024. This initiative is scheduled to run through mid-January, offering residents multiple ways to manage fallen leaves.

Alexandria is divided into five collection zones, each with designated start dates and three separate collection passes. Residents who are part of the city's trash and recycling services can dispose of leaves by raking them to the curb for vacuum collection, placing them in paper leaf bags, or composting them at home. It is important not to mix brush or other materials with leaves to prevent injuries or equipment damage.

To stay informed about the status of leaf collection, residents can sign up for updates via the Alexandria eNews service or follow the Department of Transportation & Environmental Services on social media platforms such as Facebook, X, and Instagram.

Detailed information about specific collection zones and dates, as well as locations for obtaining free biodegradable leaf bags, can be found at alexandriava.gov/LeafCollection.
