The City of Alexandria is seeking public input on its Draft Phase 3 Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plan. This plan outlines strategies for the city to achieve stormwater pollution reduction targets, contributing to the cleanup efforts of the Chesapeake Bay.

The city's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) General Permit mandates these cleanup targets. This permit regulates stormwater discharges from the city's storm sewer system and requires a Bay Action Plan that includes strategies to mitigate pollution from stormwater runoff. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality issues this permit in five-year cycles.

Under the current General Permit, Alexandria must develop and implement a Phase 3 Chesapeake Bay TMDL Action Plan by June 31, 2028, meeting all pollution reduction targets.

Starting Thursday, August 29, residents can submit comments via email at MS4ProgramPlan@alexandriava.gov or through an online form available on the city's Chesapeake Bay webpage. Comments can also be mailed or delivered to:

The deadline for public comment is September 16, 2024. After reviewing the feedback, the finalized Phase 3 Bay Action Plan will be posted on the city's Chesapeake Bay webpage by November 1, 2024.
