Rep. Don Beyer, serving the U.S. Congress as a representative of Virginia's 8th district, has commented recently on trade issues under the past Trump administration. Beyer's series of posts highlighted legislative responses to tariffs and trade authority.

On April 3, 2025, Beyer referenced the Trump's administration tariffs imposed on materials including steel, aluminum, lumber, copper, and potentially expanding to medicines and computer chips. He mentioned his legislation to address these tariffs: "My Congressional Trade Authority Act w/ @RepDelBene addresses these."

Shortly after, Beyer discussed the exploration of trade authorities by Trump under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930 and Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. In another tweet, he detailed legislative efforts underway to address these issues, specifying: "@RepSchneider's Repealing Outdated and Unilateral Tariff Authorities Act and @RepJimmyPanetta's Reclaim Trade Powers Act address these. I cosponsored."

Further detailing the legislative initiatives, Beyer provided links to texts and cosponsor lists for various acts. On April 3, he posted a link with the message: "Text + cosponsor lists for each bill - Prevent Tariff Abuse Act, Congressional Trade Authority Act, Repealing Outdated and Unilateral Tariff Authorities Act, Reclaim Trade Powers Act."
