The Alexandria Fire Department (AFD) has been recognized with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) Accredited Agency status through the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). This accreditation is reserved for departments meeting performance criteria across eleven categories, showing a commitment to high standards in public safety. AFD joins over 300 agencies with Internationally Accredited status from CFAI and CPSE.
City Manager James Parajon stated, "This achievement reflects our commitment to excellence in public safety and continuous improvement in the delivery of fire and emergency services in our city."
CFAI accreditation ensures AFD remains a leader in the fire service industry, maintaining top-tier service to the Alexandria community. The process encourages continuous improvement in the department's capabilities and preparedness, underscoring its dedication to excellence and safety.
Fire Chief Felipe Hernandez expressed that achieving Accredited Agency status "represents a clear and powerful validation of the professionalism, dedication, and commitment AFD members bring to our mission of serving the community by protecting lives, property, and the environment every day."
CFAI supports fire and emergency service agencies worldwide in reaching excellence through self-assessment and accreditation, aiming for continuous quality improvement and enhanced service delivery. The CFAI process offers an improvement model for internal service delivery assessment, further validated by peer agencies.
