The City of Alexandria's Department of Transportation and Environmental Services is tasked with maintaining sidewalks, alleys, and over 561 lane miles of road. The department's repaving, patching, sidewalk, and alley programs aim to keep infrastructure in good condition for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
Residents and businesses on streets scheduled for repaving receive advance notice through project signs or letters. Temporary "No Parking" signs will be posted before work begins. It is important to observe these signs to avoid tickets or towing.
The street repaving list and schedule are subject to change due to factors such as weather conditions, equipment availability, other city projects, and utility work coordination.
Scheduled for citywide street repaving from September 16 to September 22 is Franklin Street (from South Payne Street to South Union Street).
Completed street repaving includes:
- Ballenger Avenue (from Holland Lane to Courthouse Square)
- Wilkes Street (from South Patrick Street to End)
- Elizabeth Lane (from Eisenhower Avenue to Courthouse Square)
- Stovall Street (from Eisenhower Avenue to Mill Road)
