The City of Alexandria has issued a reminder to its residents about the early voting options available for the upcoming Dual Primary Election on June 18, 2024. Registered voters in Virginia can participate by either voting by mail or in person. The election will feature contests for Democratic nominations for Mayor and City Council, or the Republican nomination for United States Senate.

In these Dual Primary Elections, voters can choose to vote in one primary but not both. Voters must communicate their choice to the Pollbook officer, and their decision cannot be contested.

For those opting to vote by mail, applications for mail-in ballots need to be submitted to the Office of Voter Registration & Elections by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 7. Applications can be accessed online at vote.elections.virginia.gov, downloaded from the City’s Elections webpage, or requested via phone at 703-746-4050. Completed ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18 or postmarked by that date and received by noon on Friday, June 21.

Early voting is available until Saturday, June 15 at 5 p.m., with designated hours at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections located at 132 N. Royal St., Suite 100.

Ballot drop boxes will be stationed at all polling locations on June 18 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., with an additional secure outdoor drop box under video surveillance accessible around the clock until polls close on election day.

Same Day Registration is offered for those who missed the standard registration deadline of May 28. This option requires registering and voting provisionally at the correct locality and polling place. Provisional ballots will not appear in unofficial results but will be included in official tallies once verified.

For comprehensive information regarding voter registration requirements, sample ballots, precinct maps, ID requirements or reasonable disability accommodations, residents are encouraged to visit alexandriava.gov/Elections or contact Angela Turner at voters@alexandriava.gov or call 703-746-4050.
