ALX Preschool has announced the opening of its application period for families in Alexandria with children aged 3 and 4. The preschool network aims to provide high-quality care and education, encouraging families to register their children for the upcoming school year.

Research indicates that attending a quality preschool can enhance children's math and reading skills, better prepare them for kindergarten, reduce behavioral issues, and increase their likelihood of graduating from high school and pursuing higher education.

Families interested in enrolling their children can apply online. A preschool registrar will contact applicants within ten business days to assist with the enrollment process. For those preferring in-person assistance, a list of locations and dates is available through June 16 for walk-in applications.

The coordinated enrollment system matches eligible children with one of 16 public or private providers in Alexandria or provides referrals. Providers offer flexible hours, evidence-based curriculums focusing on language development, social skills, problem-solving skills, physical development, early literacy, math, science, social studies, art, music activities, diverse cultural experiences as well as meals and health services.

Eligibility requires that the child be age 3 by September 30 and reside in Alexandria. Families must also meet income eligibility guidelines. Applications are available in multiple languages including English, Amharic, Dari, Spanish and Arabic. Assistance is available by calling 703.746.5437 or emailing ALXPreschool@alexandriava.gov.

ALX Preschool operates under Kids’ First Years—a partnership dedicated to building an equitable early care system for young children. More information can be found at kidsfirstyears.org.
