On Saturday, June 22, the Charles Houston Recreation Center will host two events to commemorate Juneteenth. The events include a Bench Dedication from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a Celebration from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. The facility and pool will maintain regular hours during these events. Due to expected high attendance, attendees are encouraged to use alternative transportation methods.
The Braddock Road Metrorail station is nearby, with Yellow Line and Blue Line trains stopping there. It is a seven-minute walk from the center, and services start at 7 a.m. on Saturdays.
DASH buses provide free service, with lines 30 and 31 dropping off one block away at Madison St & N Patrick St. These buses operate from as early as 6 a.m. until midnight on Saturdays.
Capital Bikeshare offers several docking stations within walking distance of the event site at various locations including Madison St & Fairfax St and N Pitt St & Montgomery St.
Dockless mobility options such as e-scooters and e-bikes are available throughout Old Town. Users are reminded not to ride on sidewalks per City code and should park devices in designated areas like scooter corrals or bike racks.
Rideshare services like Lyft and Uber can be used for drop-off and pick-up at the recreation center through their respective apps.
