The city of Alexandria, Virginia, will host a significant event on July 18th to mark the 250th anniversary of the Fairfax Resolves. This historic document was a key moment in Virginia's colonial history as it challenged British authority and laid the groundwork for American independence.

The event is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM with history booths, followed by an official program at 6:00 PM. The program will include a marker dedication to honor the actions that moved the colonies toward independence. Attendees can also enjoy a performance by the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and historical portrayals of George Washington and George Mason. Carly Fiorina, National Honorary Chairperson of the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission, will deliver keynote remarks.

"This is a chance to learn about Virginia's significant role in the American Revolution and be inspired by the enduring spirit of liberty," said event organizers.

Several organizations are partnering for this event, including VA250, Office of Historic Alexandria, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, George Mason’s Gunston Hall, Carlyle House Historic Park, and Fairfax Resolves Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution.

In addition to the main event on July 18th, several related activities are planned throughout July. These include an outdoor exhibition at Carlyle House from July 16 through mid-September and a signature lecture at Gunston Hall on July 17 with Dr. Holly Brewer from the University of Maryland. Other events include specialty tours at Carlyle House from July 19-21 and trivia and tours at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum on July 20-21.

For those interested in further exploring America's revolutionary origins, "The Origins of the Revolution Conference" will take place on July 24-25 at Mount Vernon.

To accommodate all attendees, reasonable disability accommodations are available upon request. For more information or media inquiries about these events or other commemorative activities celebrating Alexandria's rich history since its founding in 1749, contact details have been provided for relevant officials.

The VA250 Commission aims to educate Virginians about their state's role in shaping national history through various events leading up to this milestone anniversary.
